Monitoring and evaluation

Keep track

Companies in North Macedonia must consider decarbonisation as a continuous process that requires regular monitoring. To ensure ongoing improvement, the following actions are to be considered:

  • Developing KPIs (key performance indicators) to evaluate the effectiveness of actions and to adjust goals.
  • Conducting regular audits to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Raising employee awareness to strengthen their commitment (for instance, through launching an annual e-learning session).
  • Transparent communication on progress made in order to maintain buy-in of all stakeholders.
  • Establishing strategic partnerships or participating in events to stay at the cutting edge of innovation, or to stay informed about regulatory developments.

The table below shows some examples of KPIs.

KPI Description

CO2 emissions

Tracks the total CO2 emissions of your business and the emissions reductions achieved through your decarbonisation efforts.

Energy efficiency

The amount of energy used relative to your company's production.

Renewable energy share

The amount of energy from renewable sources compared to the total energy used. Obtaining "origin certificates" to prove the percentage of green electricity will be important

Level of recycling and reuse

The amount of waste your company recycles or reuses compared to the total amount of waste produced.

Green investments

The proportion of the company's investments dedicated to green or sustainable projects. Investments made as part of green financing should be accounted for.

CO2 emissions from suppliers

If your carbon footprint shows a high dependency on external suppliers, it might be useful to measure improvements made in the supply chain.

Carbon offset

If your company uses carbon offsets to balance its emissions, this KPI can measure the amount of carbon you compensate compared to your total emissions.
